WHAT IS SIN?

Peter Neri

OVERVIEW

Why is it so important to talk about sin? Why are so few speaking to the issue of sin today? Why must sin be called by its right name?

Warning: "Satan is continually seeking to overcome the people of God by breaking down the barriers which separate them from the world...Familiarity with sin will inevitably cause it to appear less repulsive".(GC 508,509)  "The line of distinction between professed Christians and the ungodly is now hardly distinguishable." (GC 588)  "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil." (Isaiah 5:20)

Sin is biblically defined as transgression of the law.  In this series, you will dig deeper and more intimately into the sin problem.

SERIES INFO

1. What Is Sin?
“Whatever weakens your reason or conscience, or obscures your sense of God and takes off the relish of spiritual things, that is sin to you.” –John Wesley’s Mother
Discover why it is sin to not “know” Jesus. Learn the basic effect of sin, and the good news of how to overcome sin.

2. “Neither Do I Condemn Thee”
Consider the story of salvation as revealed in John 3. He did not come to this world to condemn, but to save. Also learn special truths revealed in Jesus’ words spoken to Mary Magdalene that provide important instruction and encouragement.

3. The Evolution of Sin
It is dangerous, but we can play “world” until He comes by making it “fuzzy” to differentiate between the clean and the unclean, between good and evil, between right and wrong. Consider the words of Malachi 2:17 with the warning that we are have wearied the Lord and learn how we have wearied Him. The ultimate goal of talking about sin is for us to understand our desperate need of a Savior and to prepare for the experience of being isolated and maligned for doing what is right.
