ABOUT Jorge Rico

Jorge E. Rico, D.Min., Ph.D., earned both degrees at the Andrews University Theological Seminary and has served as a pastor, evangelist, conference ministerial secretary, and academy teacher. He is currently the Chair of the Religion Department at Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, Texas, where he lives with his wife, Elizabeth, and their two children, Michelle and Jorge III. Dr. Rico has made an impact on many lives in his ministry through seminar and workshop presentations in the countries of Australia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Indonesia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Poland as well as in different parts of the U.S.

OVERVIEW

"We cannot now step off the foundation that God has established. We cannot now enter into any new organization; for this would mean apostasy from the truth." 2SM 390. The deviation from the biblical foundation by the early Christian Church is revealed in this unique seminar showing how this affected Christian thinking throughout the early centuries. Importantly, special attention is given to how biblical doctrines were incorporated into the Adventist message and their role in this time of history, the time of the end.

1) FOUNDATIONS OF BIBLICAL DOCTRINES

This presentation discusses the foundations for biblical doctrines. It describes the initial relationship between God and man and God’s provision to help man know his Creator. It also explains how sin distorted that relationship and the role of biblical doctrines to help man know his Creator.

2) DISTORTION OF BIBLICAL DOCTRINES

This presentation explains Paul’s efforts to keep the church biblically sound regarding doctrines. It also examines the apostle’s warnings about the coming of false teachers into the church and the church’s deviation from sound biblical doctrine.

3) HISTORICAL DEVIATION AND RESTORATION

This presentation describes how the church deviated from biblical doctrine and the philosophical foundation used to reinterpret the Scriptures. It also introduces how God started the process of restoring biblical truth through the Protestant Reformation.

4) ADVENTIST CONTRIBUTION TO THE PROTESTANT REFORMATION

This presentation discusses how the founders of the Adventist Church had initially agreed on some basic beliefs, but resisted the formulation of a specific doctrinal creed. Then it describes how other biblical doctrines like the Trinity, Tithing, and Sanctuary were eventually incorporated into the Adventist message. The presentation was concluded with an explanation of the biblical model for doctrinal development.
