1. Cultural Christianity
Paul warns us that although “all” of the Israelites shared in the Exodus experience, “most” of them had only a cultural Christianity that was not able to bring them into the Promised Land. How is it with the church today?
2. New Theology and Half-Hearted Christians
A “mixed multitude” left Egypt with the Israelites. These were Egyptians who only wanted to escape the judgments of God, but were not truly converted, and were always seeking to compromise the faith of Israel. There is a “mixed multitude” in the church today doing the exact same thing.
3. Look and Live
Foreseeing the multiplicity of false gospels that would be promoted in the last days, the apostle refers us to an experience of ancient Israel that Christ Himself used to explain and clarify the one and only true way of salvation.
4. That Quaint Little Restaurant in Cairo
When the children of Israel were longing for the food of Egypt, little did they realize the consequences, but God did; high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and cancer–all the diseases of the Egyptians (and of those living in the last days).
5. A Little Leaven
If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em! The devil has employed this tactic successfully for thousands of years. It brought down the Israelites at Baal Peor, and it is wreaking havoc on God’s last-day church.
6. Itching Ears
The Bible warns explicitly that in the last days many of God’s professed people will search out preachers that allow them to dictate what is preached, while at the same time rising up against any who dare to preach the Word “in season and out of season.”
